Teleconferencing & Videoconferencing

What is a Teleconference?
A teleconference is a live television program delivered direct via satellite to specifically licensed sites, allowing audience participation at locations across the country simultaneously.

Why Teleconference?
Teleconferences are effective because they are:

  • Interactive - Participants can submit questions via phone, fax or email and get answers on-air from the program presenters.
  • Current - Because they are live, programs offer up-to-the-minute information.
  • Cost Effective - The cost of licensing a teleconference, a program in which your entire staff may participate, is usually much less than the cost of sending just one staff member to an in-person conference or seminar.

Where can teleconferences be held?
The Richard Hagemeyer Learning Resources Center (LRC) on CPCC’s Central Campus (building 8 on the map) houses the College's teleconference facility. Programs are hosted on the ground floor of the building in a room that is set up classroom style with a seating capacity of 28. With sufficient lead time, we can arrange to deliver live teleconferences through the College IT network to the College's other six campuses. Please allow at least 4 weeks before the event for this service.

Who pays?
Requesting College departments pay license fees and for any “extras” such as catering. CPCC TV provides at no charge to individual departments the technical support required to view and participate in teleconferences where content directly relates to college or departmental goals and objectives. Outside groups are charged a fee for these services.

Who originates Teleconferences, and how do I find out about teleconferences in my field?
Teleconferences are used by a wide variety of business, governmental, and professional organizations for training and staff development. At CPCC, teleconferences in the field of education and human resources are frequently downlinked. Important sources of Teleconferences include:

What about “videoconferencing” and the NC Information Highway (NCIH)?
Through our connection to the North Carolina Information Highway (NCIH), located in room LR 035 on the Central Campus, videoconferences can be held with other NCIH sites across North Carolina as well as off-net sites around the world. For more information about using the NCIH to deliver and exchange classes, hold meetings with colleagues and organizations, call CPCC TV.
