Placement testing provides an accurate and timely assessment of a student’s academic proficiency levels which help determine the most appropriate courses in English, reading, and math.  Therefore, it's very important you do the best you can.

Central Piedmont Community College administers ACCUPLACER, an online, Computerized Placement Test (CPT).  Each placement test is untimed, allowing you to relax, concentrate, and take as much time as you need.  Rest and preparation are two of the most important things you can do to improve your scores. We highly recommend you test when you are well-rested, and only after a thorough review of the ACCUPLACER study guides.  Permission to retest is not automatic. In order to retest you must either 1) wait one year from the time you took your test, 2) complete the developmental course you placed into with at least a B, or 3) receive special permission from the English or Mathematics Division Director.  If you are not feeling well on the day of your testing appointment, you should reschedule.  We Want You To Be Successful!

ACCUPLACER contains four assessments (Reading, English, Arithmetic, Algebra), and usually takes between one to two hours to complete. A fifth assessment, College-Level Math, may be required depending on your algebra score. Calculators and dictionaries are not allowed during the placement tests. The Testing & Assessment Center provides pencils and scratch paper. Upon completion of the placement tests, students will visit the Counseling and Advising Center.  After reviewing a student's scores, an advisor will make a determination regarding particular course placement.

Placement testing is offered at all CPCC campuses. Students wishing to test at the Central Campus do not need an appointment. Instead, please refer to the testing hours listed on our homepage. Students wishing to test at a campus other than Central  will need to contact that particular campus directly for testing hours and scheduling. Testing schedules are subject to change.  

 NEW!  CPCC now accepts ASSET and COMPASS placement scores.  If you have taken ACCUPLACER, ASSET or COMPASS at another school, have an official copy of your scores mailed or faxed to CPCC,  C/O:  Matt Bruining, Assistant Director
