Executive Committee

Meet the 2008-2009 SGA Executive Committee!

President

Kathleen Collado.jpg Kathleen Collado

My name is Kathleen Collado and I am asking for your vote for President of the Student Government Association. Just like a lot of other students at CPCC, I had family obligations and a full-time job when I decided to take my first class in 2000. In 2005, I was able to enroll in the Hospitality and Restaurant Management Program. I took three night classes and worked days at USAirways. Now, I am a full time student almost done with my Associates degree.

Along the way, I have been honored to find a diverse group of friends by joining clubs and serving on boards at Central campus. Currently, I am a Senator of SGA at the Central campus and also on the board of Phi Theta Kappa. For the past two years, I have had many rich experiences while attending the Student Life Leadership Conference in Roaring Gap, NC. This knowledge has taught me that even though we come from different walks of life, from diverse cultures and different countries, we often share similar goals and hardships.

Presently, I work as a tutor in the “America Reads” Program teaching basic reading and math skills to “at risk” elementary students. In September, I started a year long program called “Leadership Academy” which has taught me how to set goals, manage my time effectively, develop leadership skills and how to motivate others.

If elected, my goals are to:

  • Encourage more students to get involved on the area campus’ through service project
  • Work with administrators in the newly implemented safety programs in the wake of the tragedies at Virginia Tech and NIU
  • Continue to encourage students to use CPCC’s Career Services as Graduation approaches
Thank you for your support.

Vice-President

 Katherine Katherine Johnson

I am honored to be considered for Vice-President on the Executive Committee of the Student Government Association. After attending serveral classes over the last few semesters, it has made me recognize that the SGA is a big part of many lives here at CPCC and in our community. That is why I would be obliged to accept the opportunity to contribute to the future growth of SGA.

The intention that I present before the entire nominating committee and student body is to gain the opportunity to be able to be elected Vice-President of the SGA at CPCC. I would like to use my experience and knowledge to encourage and also represent the entire student body. Through my representation, I will promote leadership and encourage responsibility to my fellow students.

Treasurer

Tarma Fontaine.jpg Tarma Fontaine

Growing up on a tropical island where community is very important to our way of life I grew up being involved in community as well as school groups and organizations. During my years in elementary school I was involved with the science club, 4-H club and the local girl scouts were I learned to always be prepared for whatever life throws at me. During high school I was the president of our local Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme program at our school an also on our school’s netball team. Later on in college I continued my involvement with the duke of Edinburgh award scheme and also became a Girl Scout leader. Through all these organizations I learnt so much about myself and how to deal with people whether I am in a leadership position or not.

Now I am currently at CPCC and will like to continue my involvement in this new community. I have already began my work here in, I recently spent spring break with habitat for humanity in Sumter south Carolina and one weekend at a leadership conference at camp cheerio. These were both amazing experiences allowing me to meet new people and discover new things about myself. I also learnt how to deal with people of different cultures and thinking. Currently I volunteer with Siegel partnership where I help to tutor underprivileged children after school.

I am a firm believer in giving back to society and being in student government will help me give back to CPCC for the opportunity it has provided for me. Also as an international student I will like to able to represent the international student population here on campus. To be able to voice their concerns and views on whatever that may be occurring on campus. I am a really passion person and will not give up till I accomplish the goal that was set before me and I am willing to make a difference here at this college no matter how small or big it is and I believe that the best way to accomplish these goals is to join the student government, who in fact represent the larger student body.

I am writing this to inform you that I am interested in running for Executive Committee for Student Government Association.
