NC ACTS!
What is NC ACTS!?
North Carolina – Activating Citizenship Through Service (NC-ACTS!) is an AmeriCorps program that North Carolina Campus Compact (NCCC) runs through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service. This program’s goals include: fostering civic engagement on college campuses, encouraging collaborative relationships between colleges and their communities, and allying students with a national service movement. The program allows students from NCCC member institutions (like CPCC) to earn a 1,000 dollar educational award. In order to earn this award, students must complete 300 hours of service and several on-line reflection exercises.
The NC-ACTS! program focuses on three issue areas: Education, Human Needs/Services, and Volunteer-Recruitment. In the past, students from CPCC have worked with the Charlotte/Mecklenburg School system and local Human Services-related agencies.
CPCC has been awarded a limited number of NC-ACTS! slots. Therefore, the privilege to serve as an NC-ACTS! member is limited to those selected through an application process during the first weeks of Fall semester 2008.
