The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is currently seeking candidates for the position of Police Telecommunicator.

Primary responsibilities: answer 911 Emergency and administrative incoming telephone calls and determine action to be taken; operate police radio, promptly and accurately dispatching field units for service calls; and coordinate emergency services. Requires high school graduation/GED; a minimum of 18 years of age; and US Citizenship. Must have a clear, concise speaking voice for transmission over police radio; must be available to train and work on shift as assigned by Division. Shift assignments are made by need and based on seniority. Applicants must be able to work weekends, holidays and during inclimate weather; be career oriented; pass skills and abilities assessment test; type 3,140 keystrokes per hour (35 wpm); have good computer skills; be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; must be able to hear and comprehend telephone callers and officers through telephone and radio voice communications; have the ability to read information being displayed on multiple computer screens; prefer experience equivalent to one year police-communications dispatching. Final candidates selected are subject to a drug screening test, criminal history background investigation, driver’s history background check, polygraph examination, and credit history check prior to employment.
