Overview of CJ Program
Criminal Justice is a modern’s society system of roles and activities for defining and dealing with crime. The goal of this program is to introduce students to the workings of the criminal Justice system. They will learn what is expected of the system, what the system actually delivers, and how it does so, and what the consequences are for society.
The curriculum is designed to provide knowledge of criminal justice systems and operations. Study will focus on local, state, and federal systems. Course work includes all aspects of the criminal justice system, law enforcement, the courts, legal issues, forensics and corrections.
The Associate of Applied Science degree is awarded in Criminal Justice Technology once students complete 20 hours of mandatory general education courses and 50 hours of criminal justice courses. Students may continue their studies at a four-year university in Criminal Justice or Criminology.
Graduates should qualify for employment or advancement in governmental agencies, local/ state law enforcement, detention officers, correctional officers, group home counselors, community based program staff. Employed persons should gain opportunities for skilled and supervisory-level positions within their current organization.
