Food in the Library Policy

Food in the Library Policy

** No food is allowed at computer workstations in the library. Beverages with lids are allowed.**

The following categories of foods are acceptable and will be allowed in the public areas of the library:

  • Beverages with lids including coffee, hot chocolate, smoothies, and bottled drinks with tops that can be replaced for transport 
  • Baked goods including muffins, biscotti, brownies, cookies, scones, doughnuts, etc. 
  • Fresh Fruit in the natural skin (i.e. apples, bananas, pears, etc.) 
  • Prepackaged snack foods including chips, nuts (shelled), crackers, candy, etc.

The following categories of foods are not acceptable and will NOT be allowed in the public areas of the library:

  • Any foods that require subsequent preparation (i.e. adding condiments, shelling nuts, dipping sauces, etc.) with the exceptions being cream and sugar for coffee and possibly cream cheese for bagels if sold on site as long as such preparation is completed at the point of sale 
  • Fruit cups (i.e. fruit cocktail or melon cups) 
  • Ice cream 
  • Hot foods/meals including sandwiches, fast foods or take out (examples: pizza, burgers, fried chicken, french fries, etc.) 
  • Cold salads, deli salads, garden salads, etc.
