What is a Learning Community?

• Learning communities are courses that are linked through a common theme with a cohort of students

• The intent is to build a community of learners who support each other through all of their courses.
• In addition, students make a connection to their instructors, who collaborate their course content and track student progress.

  There are five learning communities planned for Fall 2008. You will find the communitites listed under "Fall 2008 Communities".

 Benefits of learning communities include:

• Increased student retention and advancement
• Learning-centered environment with peer and instructor support
• Instant application of coursework
• Faculty and course development
• Diversity and cultural exploration
