International Student Admissions/Student Visa Information
CPCC offers assistance to Charlotte-area residents who want to bring family members or friends living outside the United States to study at our college. In addition to assisting with the paperwork for F-1 (Student) visas, the International Admissions office can assist those who are in the United States under other types of visas ("J" exchange visitor, etc.) with their enrollment at CPCC. Basic Skills English as a Second Language (LEP)
These classes are for newly arrived immigrants, 18 years and older, who need to improve their basic literacy and communication skills. Basic Skills Adult ESL instruction is free. Students are assessed and placed into an appropriate level. Instruction is offered in lab, classroom and distance learning settings at various campuses and community based organizations. The program is sequenced to include basic English language skills for community life and intermediate level English skills for work purposes. For more information, call (704)330-6172.
Learning English at a Distance (LEAD)
The LEAD team provides English language instruction at a distance. This program is for those students who are unable to attend regularly scheduled classes. In addition, this program can be implemented in community based organizations and the workplace.
Academic English as a Second Language (EFL)
This program is for students who need to improve their English language skills for college level study or for professional career advancement. Instruction focuses on reading, writing, listening-speaking skills and grammar. The Academic ESL program is a pre-college program which requires a placement test.
