Q: Are there study guides available for placement tests?
A: Yes, study guides can be found at the following web site: www.cpcc.edu/testing_assessment

Q: Will the credits I earned, from another college count toward a degree at CPCC?
A: Yes, the credits earned at another college will count if, CPCC offers equivalent courses. All courses with a grade of “C” or higher will transfer. To transfer credits, you need to have an official transcript sent to the student records office and then fill out a “Transcript Evaluation Request” form.

Q: Do I need documentation of courses taken elsewhere to take classes at CPCC?
A: Yes, CPCC needs to have official documentation that indicates a student has taken the appropriate prerequisite(s) course.

Q: Why does a student need a catalog?
A: A student needs a catalog because it is vital in terms of knowing program requirements, course descriptions, prerequisite(s)/co-requisite(s) as well as policies and procedures of the college.

Q: If I am receiving financial aid, can I take whatever courses I want?
A: No, financial aid pays only for courses that fall within your approved program of study. You will have to pay for any courses taken outside of your curriculum.

Q: Why do I need a copy of my high school transcript?
A: You need a copy of your official high school transcript on file as a requirement of CPCC's admissions process.

Q: Why do I need to take advancement study courses?
A: If you do not test at the minimum test score requirement for English, Math or Reading you must take the advancement study courses depending on the respective scores. A counselor or advisor will interpret test scores and recommend the appropriate courses.

Q: What is the difference between a counselor and a faculty advisor?
A: A counselor helps students declare programs of study, decide on preliminary course work, and plan for graduation. In addition, counselors help students who have difficulty in academic or personal matters. A faculty advisor is the expert on courses in your program and will assist you in planning your education. Transfer
students see their faculty advisor when they have less than 30 hours of credit. AAS degree students see their faculty advisors for the entire time they are in the degreeprogram. Faculty advisors are available in the department that offers your program of study.
