Concurrent Enrollment General Information
The Concurrent Enrollment Program provides eligible students a head start on a college education, advanced vocational preparation and personal enrichment opportunities. (Note: NC high schools include public, private, or home schools authorized by NC to operate as home schools.)
Eligible high school students must be 16 years old, currently enrolled in a North Carolina high school at least one-half of a full time schedule (at least 3 high school courses or one-half of the high school day), and be making satisfactory progress towards graduation in order to participate in the Concurrent Enrollment Program. Participating students must have the approval and signature of their principal or other designate person on the Concurrent Enrollment approval form, as well as the parent's approval and signature, and the student must also sign the form.
Concurrent Enrollment students are regarded by CPCC as any other college student and receive identical treatment. This means all students are responsible for their own behavior, attendance, and communication with instructors.
High school students who are at least 16 years old and live in other NC counties may participate in the Concurrent Enrollment Program if their local community college does not offer the course the student wants. We encourage you to check with your local community college.
Concurrent Enrollment students may register for any 100-level college course or higher for which they met the pre-requisites. College level courses include traditional, online, and teleweb courses (Distance Learning).
Concurrent Enrollment students enroll in college-level courses and begin creating a college transcript which is a permanent record.
Tuition and fees for college level courses are waived for high school students who participate in the Concurrent Enrollment Program at CPCC. Students must pay for continuing education and self-supporting classes.
Concurrently enrolling students are not eligible to take remedial or developmental courses (courses numbered below 100 are remedial; for example, MAT090, RED090, ENG080 are remedial courses).
CPCC awards college credits only. Whether high school credit is awarded is up to the receiving high school.
Students may attend any one of CPCC's campuses.
Registration for Concurrent Enrollment students is in-person only and at designated times. Registration may be done at any CPCC campus. Dates are posted below for the term.
Credit Awarded
CPCC awards college credits only. Whether high school credit is awarded is up to the receiving high school.

Placement Test Information and Tips
- To enroll in college level Math and English classes, all students must take a Placement Test at CPCC and score high enough to qualify for college level classes. Students are not permitted to enroll in developmental/remedial coursework as part of their college experience or concurrent enrollment studies.
- Concurrent Enrollment students who are 16 are encouraged to take the Placement Test before the designated Concurrent Enrollment registration period.
- Students are strongly encouraged to do advanced preparation prior to taking the test such as taking the practice test (see link below). Students are encouraged to take their time and do their best. The Placement Test is untimed and students may take as long as they need but students are not permitted to retest within one year of original test date.
- NOTE: students are not permitted to use calculators or dictionaries on the Placement Test.
- For information on the Placement Test, go to http://www.cpcc.edu/testing_assessment
- To practice for the Placement Test, select the ACCUPLACER Study Guide link.
- There are many other good online resources to use for practice. A few are: www.math.com and http://www.thea.nesinc.com/practice.htm and http://www.aims.edu/student/assessment/study_guides.htm and http://www.yccd.edu/assessment/sample.html
- You may take the Placement Test at any CPCC Campus that offers the test. Please call the campus at which you wish to test and make an appointment. For campus locations and contact numbers, go to http://www.cpcc.edu/maps/
- Placement Test scores must be interpreted by an Academic Advisor. Most campuses have an Academic Advisor, but their schedules may vary. Please call the campus where you will take the Placement Test and request their schedules so that you may have the test scores interpreted after taking the test. The results of the Placement Test will let you know if you are eligible to enroll in college level English or Math courses or if you need to make other plans to take courses which do not require a minimum Placement Test score as a prerequisite.

From Student Success Services:
Q: What information do students receive when they meet with a counselor?
A: Counseling sessions are as diverse as our students, but the form below provides a summary of the content of a first meeting between a student and a counselor. The counselor completes this form for the student at the conclusion of the session.
Over the course of the session, the counselor and student will have discussed academic and personal goals, along with potential obstacles to achieving the goals. Follow-up sessions with the counselor and referrals (on-campus and off-campus) are commonly used to address the identified concerns. The referral information below is specific to Central Campus, so counselors at other campuses have alternate versions which provide campus-specific locations and phone numbers.
For academic planning, the right side of the form lists the student’s program of study, contact information for his or her faculty advisor, placement into developmental courses based on test results, and recommended courses for the following semester.
