Registration Checklist

HEALTH SCIENCES DEPARTMENT
ADMISSION INFORMATION
MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM

1.  Complete college admission application in Central High Building 227 or any other campus, or online. Designate Medical Assisting program on college admission application.

2.  Take placement tests in English, Reading, and Math. Admissions will schedule appointment to take placement tests at the time of application or an appointment can be scheduled by calling 330-2722.

3.  Submit official transcripts of high school or GED and college to Student Records – Central High, Room 260.

   a.  Fill out “Student Request for Transfer of High School or College Grade” Form.
   b.  Check with Student Records to make sure transcripts have been received.
   c.  Fill out “Request for Transcript Evaluation Form” after transcripts have been received by the College. Both forms are available in Student Records. [If your high school or college transcripts are not from the United States, you will need an International Transcript Evaluation performed by an agent outside of Central Piedmont Community College. Submit the evaluation to Student Records. There is a fee for this service. You may obtain a listing of International Evaluators from the Counselors in the Central High 212 or the Admissions Clerk, Terrell 325.]

4.  Meet with counselor for test interpretation and course recommendation.

5.  Complete any required developmental courses according to placement tests results as stipulated by the Counselor, Central High 212. Required developmental courses must be successfully completed (C or better) prior to admission.

6.  The “C” letter grade is the minimum standard requirement for all courses.

7.  Must have proficiency to key (type) at an acceptable speed with accurate level. If typing is not 30 wpm, OST 131 is required.

8.  Must demonstrate basic computer competencies through coursework or testing. The division director of Computer Office and Information Systems will determine equivalent competencies. CIS 110 or CIS 111 is required if coursework is needed to demonstrate competencies.

9.  Must present evidence of good physical and mental health as specified in the ADA Essentials attached to this packet. (CORE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR ENTRY LEVEL COMPETENCIES FOR THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT).

10.  PLEASE NOTE: In order to participate in clinical education experiences at health care facilities, students may be required to submit results of a NC state or national criminal background check at their own expense.
