The Reading Comprehension Test (available in the CPCC Testing Center) is required for all applicants.  The Reading score must be 80 or higher to be eligible to make application to the program.  Students may retest after taking required developmental courses and achieving a grade of "A" or "B" in RED 080, RED 090, or RED 111.  The Reading Comprehension Test must have been taken within the past 5 years.

The Health Information Technology (HIT) curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to process, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, manage, and report health information. The HIT Program at CPCC is fully accredited by CAHIIM - Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education.  Graduates of the program receive an Associate in Applied Science degree and are eligible to write the national certification examination to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). RHITs work in supervisory and technical positions throughout health care—analyzing and managing health information.

The program is offered entirely online with the exception of Professional Practice Experience courses.  Professional Practice Experience sites must be geographically accessible to our faculty to insure adequate supervision.  Therefore we will attempt to schedule Professional Practice Experience experiences only in North Carolina, South Carolina, Southern Virginia and Eastern Georgia.
