Curriculum Materials
The list below features downloadable and free online curriculum materials we have used successfully in our program. We will continue to expand these and welcome the additions of other Adult ESL instructors across North Carolina.
1. New South Curriculum
This high intermediate-advanced civics curriculum was developed in partnership with the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, North Carolina. Students learn about prevalent themes in the post-bellum history of the region while they develop English language and critical thinking skills.
2. California Literacy's PEACE
The Process of English and Civics Education (PEACE) was developed at California Literacy and is freely available on the web. We adapted it to the needs of our program and implemented it in our beginner classes.
3. Computer Literacy Worksheets and Materials
This is a compilation of materials from internet sources that can be used to support a basic computer skills course for ESL students. An outline of a suggested computer literacy class is included.
4. REEP ESL Curriculum for Adults
An online adult ESL instructional system to help adult English language learners successfully engage in American life.
5. Adult ESOL Lesson Plans
A large collection of competency-based literacy level to advanced adult ESL lesson plans. Includes units focusing both on civics and English language skills.
6. Financial Resources and Economic Education
Developed by California Literacy with funding from the National Endowment for Financial Education, this curriculum provides basic financial literacy for ELLs
7. The Beehive Wrap-Around
A navigation guide and supplement to the Career section of The Beehive (www. beehive.org).
