What is a Course Enrollment Key?

A course enrollment key keeps unwanted people out of your course. If you leave this blank, then anyone who has a Moodle username will be able to enroll themselves in your course.

As a preventative measure, semester shells are created with an enrollment key. Students who are officially enrolled via the nightly ITS enrollment updates do not need the key. Only those students, not enrolled in the class, trying to get in for the first time will be asked to supply the key.

The key that comes with your shell is a long alpha-numeric string that is rather unwieldy. You can change the key to a more memorable word or phrase if you like. Any legitimate students who are already enrolled will not be affected.
