Early Childhood Education Club

What’s the Early Childhood club all about?
The ECEC exists to facilitate the professional development of its members through participation in a variety of early childhood activities at the local, state and national levels.

What does the club do?
The club participates in a number of worthwhile activities. Each year we take on a community service project. This year, we’re serving the residents of Jackson Park, a residential area located in West Charlotte. We’re providing school supplies and other necessities for children and their families. We attend conferences where we learn about the early childhood field and network with professional educators and other early childhood students. Last year, fourteen members attended the national conference of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the largest and most influential association of early childhood professionals in the country.  this year, ten active members will attend the national conference in Chicago, IL.  We create awareness of issues affecting young children and their families and of the contributions of early childhood educators to children’s development and well-being. We do this by sponsoring events during the Week of the Classroom Teacher and the Week of the Young Child.

What are the benefits of membership?
Members of the Early Childhood club make a difference and in so doing enjoy opportunities to develop leadership and communication skills, to practice advocacy, to network with other early childhood educators and to learn in enriching, supportive environments.  In the past, they have received funding to attend local, state and/or national conferences.  Members may also apply for the Gestwicki Scholarship, which is awarded annually.

When and where does the club hold its meetings?
The club meets at noon on the second Saturday of every month, in the Student Life Center on Harris Campus.

Can anyone join? How much does it cost to join? Whom do I contact for more information?
