Telecourses

What is a telecourse?

CPCC has a longstanding history of utilizing television (TV) and video for delivery of training materials and college-level courses. These courses are commonly referred to as "telecourses." A TELECOURSE is a fully accredited, college-level integrated learning package which employs professionally produced video lessons to present significant portions of its content. CPCC instructors may incorporate a combination of other components to tailor course delivery to the content as well as the needs of the student.

The video programs are broadcast on CPCC TV, the college’s cable TV channel which goes into approximately 225,000 households in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

If you want to earn college credit, but find it difficult to fit weekly on-campus classes into your busy schedule, CPCC telecourses can help you achieve your goal.

How do telecourses work?

Instructors customize CPCC telecourses to maximize the student’s control over the time, place, and pace of instruction. Textbooks, workbooks, telephone, email, the internet, and face-to-face meetings may be employed to create the best mix of learning experiences to accomplish this goal.

After registering for your course, the first step is to attend an orientation. Telecourse orientations may be done at a scheduled meeting on-campus, individually with your instructor, or perhaps online. The orientation will provide the CPCC TV broadcast schedule, syllabus, test schedule, instructor contact information and all course requirements.

How and where do I view my telecourses?

The most convenient way to view telecourse lessons is on CPCC TV. CPCC TV is available in Charlotte, Pineville, Matthews, and Mint Hill on the basic service (channel 17) of Time Warner Cable of Charlotte. It is also available in Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius, Lake Norman, Mooresville and much of Iredell county on the basic service (channel 23) of Adelphia Cable. If you are not in one of the approximately 225,000 households in the college service area that gets CPCC TV, you should look into our telecourse viewing options.
