Compensatory Education
Compensatory Education is a basic skills program established to meet the academic needs of adults with a developmental disability or a severe traumatic brain injury. It is unique to North Carolina and is offered in all 58 community colleges.
At CPCC, approximately 350 persons are served each year on campus and in
rehabilitation centers in Mecklenburg County. The classes are non-credit and there is no tuition charge. Books and materials are furnished. A state mandated curriculum guides the instructor in planning class content. The emphasis is on basic life skills as they are applied to tasks of daily living and employment. Students work at their own pace under an individual education plan.
