Modifications/Adaptions
Central Piedmont Community College realizes that students with certain disabilities may require certain modifications or adaptations in pursuing their education. Some examples of such adaptations are as follows: Course substitution. Due to the disability, a student may not be able to complete the requirements or benefit from a given course. As a result, the student may request a course substitution. Such a request must be submitted to the department responsible for that course. The counselor will assist the student in his/her effort.
Adaptation on the way the course requirements are met. For example: a student who has no use of his upper limbs may request a modification for a graphic arts class which requires the development of manual skills in the use of the various printers. These adaptations would be determined by the instructor, department head, student and his/her counselor.
Extending the time for the completion of the degree requirements by approving a lower class load. Some students with specific learning disabilities that require extensive review and repetition may not be able to carry a full load as defined by the College. When a student having this difficulty is sponsored by an agency, such as Vocational Rehabilitation or an insurance company, he/she may request a letter from the office of Disability Services to support their need for a reduced load.
