Charlotte; the Green Horizon

A November 18th Panel Event

 City Smog

Charlotte, the Green Horizon

Sponsored by WFAE 90.7 FM

The recent trip to Chicago by our Chamber and other key groups, opened some eyes and launched creative thinking by many attendants regarding opportunities here in the Charlotte region. Are we too on the threshold of greatness? Where/how do we start? What are the primary challenges? Does the city have enough partners to make something happen for the long haul?
Our city and its citizens want good things; smart growth, sensible transportation choices, stellar education programs and sustainable development to include an assortment of accessible green space.  As Central Piedmont Community College plans for the future, looking towards workforce development in support of these desirable outcomes, we are scheduling a November 18th panel discussion in order to take the “pulse” of Charlotte’s ability to prosper.

We have selected what we believe to be a cross-section of Charlotte professionals who will bring before a live audience, their observations, advice, predictions and warnings, based on their best judgments and experience. Molly Grantham from WBTV News will moderate and offer questions for discussion. This is not a debate and is not a political event, nor is it a finger pointing session, but an opportunity to awaken cooperative thinking and potential partnerships for action. This is simply a snapshot of where the Charlotte region is, where it could be, and what it will take to get there.  Just two weeks after the presidential election, the timing couldn’t be better.

Panel members include:

  • Dave Cable – Executive Director; Catawba Lands Conservancy
  • Dr. Helen Hilger - UNC-Charlotte Associate Professor – Civil & Environmental Engineering
  • Edwin Peacock – City Council Member, Chair of the Environment Cabinet
  • Rob Phocas – Assistant City Attorney for the City of Charlotte. Environmental Law.
  • Rebecca Yarbrough – Assistant Director – Centralina Council of Governments
  • Matt Miller -coordinator for Geomatics and Sustainability, CPCC
The panel discussion will be moderated by WBTV 3 News; Molly Grantham.
