Areas of Expertise and benefits brought to the Advisory Board:

Director and business development professional with almost 20 years experience in the environmental industry. Through Chestnut Consulting Ms. Clark provides sustainability coaching, assessments and training to businesses and develops programs to promote consumer awareness of sustainable solutions. She is the former Executive Director of the Carolinas EcoCrescent and has worked as a recycling specialist for Sonoco, Weyerhaeuser, and Phoenix Recycling, as well as in program development for the Catawba Lands Conservancy. Prior to her environmental work, Ms. Clark was a registered financial advisor with Invest Securities. Beth's unique blend of expertise in business, finance, and non-profit gives her insight into the broad range of perspectives of each stakeholder involved in the sustainability dialog. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, is an avid soccer player, and an avid soccer fan of her husband and two teenagers who also enjoy playing.

Kavita Gupta is an Architect with fifteen years of multi-disciplinary experience in Architecture & Urban Design, Construction Management and Marketing – she has a Master’s degree in each of these three disciplines. She recently relocated to Charlotte from Los Angeles, and chose to work for P+W due to its leadership in sustainability. As Director of Business Development for Perkins + Will, her responsibilities include supporting and furthering the sustainability initiatives of her firm and increase the industry awareness of green design. In addition to bringing a wealth of resources offered by P+W, she also brings cutting-edge industry knowledge and research, including benchmarking and future trends of college campuses.

Jessica Halvorsen’s responsibilities include supporting environmental initiatives throughout Bank of America’s 90 million square-foot domestic real estate portfolio, such as green building, recycling, internal green reporting, and the Hybrid Vehicle Reimbursement Program. Having recently finished graduate school, she can provide some insight into the needs of current students and job searchers.

Responsible for multiple CPCC programs and initiatives designed to promote student leadership and civic engagement.. Former member of the Mecklenburg Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) stakeholders group, which recommended stream protection measures that were implemented by the County Commission. Membership in Central Piedmont Sierra Club group and Carolinas Clean Air Coalition.

Areas of Expertise and benefits brought to the Advisory Board:

Rhea is responsible for developing thoughtful outreach and education initiatives directly contributing to advancing the Conservancy’s mission of local land conservation.  She promotes the public image of Catawba Lands Conservancy by developing and implementing both short and long-term strategies to reach target audiences. She coordinates the writing, design and printing of Conservancy materials, including newsletters, annual reports and other educational materials, and manages the Conservancy’s brand, collateral materials, and website.  To further promote the public image and inspire a conservation ethic, she develops media relationships, crafts articles and press releases, and also identifies and executes appropriate outreach activities to increase and maintain high levels of support.  Rhea has worked as an educator and event planner at Carolina Raptor Center, and in Natural Resources Management in Peace Corps – Bolivia.  She graduated with a B.S. in Biology from UNC- Chapel Hill.

Chatham holds a BA from Duke University, an MA in Communication Arts from Notre Dame, and has completed the Certificate Program in Renewable Energy at NC State. He is currently serving in Charlotte as Conservation Organizer for Sierra Club where his duties include developing relationships with government agencies and officials, local businesses and grassroots organizations in order to raise awareness and implement actions that will help move the Charlotte region to a more sustainable, environmentally conscious future. In addition, he volunteers as an expert advisor to the Going Green Carolinas initiative of WSOC-TV and speaks regularly to groups on the importance of green house reduction and the critical need for North Carolina to move to a new era of clean energy generation.

Mr. Ray is the Associate Dean of Engineering Technologies and IT at Central Piedmont Community College where he manages the faculty and staff of 17 programs across two divisions and close to 10,000 students annually. He has been active in writing grants and bringing new programs to the college. He has a strong environmental interest, specifically in how technology can affect the environment and he’s an avid recycler.
