About the Center for Sustainability
Housed under the Futures Institute, the primary objectives of the Center for Sustainability are:
1. To increase awareness of the importance of living and working in an ecologically responsible manner through programs such as Earth Day, Seminars, Publications and Speaker Series.
2. To conduct continuing education training and seminars for the general public which focus on teaching people how to live in an environmentally friendly manner. These may include: Organic & native gardening, smart houses, composting, alternative enery & fuels and backyard wildife habitats.
3. To provide training sessions for professionals in the construction industry, engineering, information technology, waste water treatment, environmental impact compliance courses, and Leeds certification training
4. To increase the perspective of environmental sustainability into our curriculum programs--- alternative fuels and energy sources, sound architectural and building practices, environmentally friendly materials, scientific environmental impact studies, sustainable horticulture practices, liberal arts, and business.

Today, environmental challenges continue to gain momentum and focus as evident in daily media coverage involving energy, sprawl, wild lands, clean air and water, global warming, population, and other issues. CPCC is in a unique position to both educate and involve its students, faculty and staff, as well as the community in learning opportunities through responsible environmental initiatives.

EBSCO, one of the library’s databases vendors, is offering free access to an environmental database, GreenFILE, at www.greeninfoonline.com. GreenFILE indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports. This resource offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the environment. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology, GreenFILE serves as an informative resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet. The database contains nearly 300,000 records, full text for selected titles and searchable cited references for more than 200 titles as well.
