"1" Mile Walking Trails

Our new campus "1 Mile Walking Trails" provide a convenient option for all employees and students to refresh during the midst of their demanding schedules, while increasing their daily physical exercise. The "1 Mile Walking Trails" at each campus are intended for everyone, each campus map has a designated one mile interior and exterior marked trail indicating the number of lap(s) required. We hope you will enjoy walking the campus trails with your department or friends as much as we did while marking and measuring the trails.

Why Walk?
There are many benefits to be gained from just 15 - 30 minutes of walking: more energy, clears your thoughts, higher metabolic rate, healthier bones and joints, reduced risks for heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and stress, as well as a walk a day keeps the colds away. More links to the benefits of walking.

Walking can be done almost anywhere and anytime
  • Take a "mini walk break" instead of a coffee break or afternoon stretch.
  • Arrange a walk-and-talk instead of a sit-and-talk meeting.
  • Walk up or down the office stairs and skip the elevator.
  • Park farther away from the office (or the store when shopping).
  • Move around, stand, and stretch while talking on the phone.
  • Walk during your lunch hour. Or walk to lunch. Or walk and do some errands at lunch time.
  • Increase your walking time...walk your campus trail before or after work.
  • Increase the duration and intensity of your walk for greater benefits.

Walking increases your memory
Studies of individuals/students who walked regularly showed significant improvement in memory skills and enhanced growth of new brain cells. Walking also improved student learning ability, concentration, and abstract reasoning. Read more
