Event scheduled for October 16 at Harris Corporate Training and Conference Center

Montreat College and Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) will host a Business Ethics Symposium on Monday, October 16th from noon-2 p.m. at the Harris Corporate Training and Conference Center (CPCC West Campus – 3216 CPCC West Campus Drive). Dr. Albert C. Pierce, Professor of Ethics and National Security at the National Defense University in Washington, DC and former Director of the Naval Academy’s Center for Ethical Leadership, will address the topic, “When Good Organizations Go Bad: The Importance of an Ethical Foundation.”

Dr. Pierce has spoken on ethics at the University of California-Berkeley as part of the Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Memorial Lectureship as well as at the University of San Diego as part of the James Bond Stockdale Symposium on Ethics and Leadership. In addition, he has addressed groups at the Center for Practical Ethics at the University of Montana-Missoula. Pierce has had more than a decade of collaboration with the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, including a project that began in 2000 that brought together ethicists, military personnel, diplomats, and others to discuss, “Conflict in the 21st Century.” The final product of this project was the book Ethics and the Future of Conflict: Lessons from the 1990’s.

Pierce has spoken to military, government, business and university audiences on the topic of ethical challenges in organizations.

”I am thrilled to bring a speaker of this caliber to Charlotte and for Montreat College to be able to offer an event to the local business community on such an important topic,” states Dr. Dan Struble, President of Montreat College. “Every company in today’s corporate climate can benefit from an open discussion about ethics.”

Charlotte-area professionals and students are invited to attend this discussion followed by a question and answer session. Admission price is $25, which includes lunch. Student tickets are $15 with ID. Reservations can be made by calling Kellie Lehman at 828.669.8102, ext. 3707 or email at klehman@montreat.edu.
