Local High School Students to Attend 2008 Construction Career Days

April 22-24 Event Exposes Juniors and Seniors To Careers in Construction

On Tuesday, April 22 through Thursday, April 24, juniors and seniors from across the region will have an opportunity to participate in the 2008 Construction Career Days from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Metrolina Expo Trade Center. The event is sponsored by the State of North Carolina Department of Transportation, the State Board of Education/Department of Public Instruction, Construction Industry Education Coalition, Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), and the National Association of Women in Construction.

High school juniors and seniors from eight counties including Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, Rowan, Union and Catawba will be participating. Attendance is estimated at 500 students per day. Interactive exhibits and competitions showcasing the following programs of study at CPCC will be available during the Career Days:

  • Welding
  • Electrical
  • Non-Destructive Examination
  • Carpentry
  • Masonry
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
 
Students currently enrolled in public high school must register for this event by speaking with their school’s Career Development Counselor (CDC). Students in private, parochial, charter or home-school environments should contact Tim Eldridge at 919-807-3881 or teldridge@dpi.state.nc.us for registration options. Advance registration is required. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ students are registered to participate in the 2008 Construction Career Days event on Thursday, April 24.
