CPCC to Host Naturalization Ceremony in Halton Theatre

375 North Carolina residents to take Oath of Allegiance and become citizens
A group of 376 North Carolina residents will take the Oath of Allegiance and become United States citizens during a ceremony this Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) in the Halton Theatre (CPCC Central Campus – 1201 Elizabeth Avenue and Kings Drive). This event is one of numerous ceremonies that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is hosting this week to celebrate Citizenship Day and Constitution Week.
During the ceremony, 83 countries will be represented by the 376 participants. Dr. Tony Zeiss, President of CPCC, will serve as the keynote speaker for the event.
On March 1, 2003, USCIS became one of three legacy Immigration and Naturalization Service components to join the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. USCIS is charged with fundamentally transforming and improving the delivery of immigration and citizenship services, while enhancing our nation’s security. Durign the past year, USCIS helped more than 640,000 men, women, and children fulfill their dreams and become United States citizens.
Central Piedmont Community College is the largest community college in North Carolina, offering 100 degree and certification programs, customized corporate training, market-focused continuing education, and special interest classes. CPCC is academically, financially and geographically accessible to all citizens of Mecklenburg County.
