CPCC To Host American Sign Language Literature Festival

Event scheduled for September 15 and 16 at CPCC North Campus
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) will host the American Sign Language (ASL) Pride event on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16. The event includes an ASL Literature Festival and North Carolina American Sign Language Teachers Association Biennial Conference. The event will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Friday and 8:15 a.m.-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the CPCC North Campus (11930 Verhoeff Drive).
Public school students will be involved in a literature component on Friday involving poetry, storytelling, arts and crafts all using sign language. A literature competition for students will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. on Friday.
Registration cost for the event is $60 for non-members, $40 for NCASLTA members and $20 for students (proper identification required). For more information, contact James Wilson at james.wilson@cpcc.edu or logon to the website at www.ncaslta.org.
CPCC is one of the first community colleges in the nation to be approved by the Conference of Interpreter Trainers to offer the interpreter education program.
