New Lab to Provide Hands-On Experience for Students at CPCC Harper Campus
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) will dedicate the Piedmont Natural Gas Hydronics Lab on Wednesday, March 14 at 10:15 a.m. at the CPCC Harper Campus (315 West Hebron Street). The dedication comes as a result of a generous gift made by Piedmont Natural Gas to the College’s HVAC program. During the celebration, remarks will be made by CPCC President Dr. Tony Zeiss; Jay Potter, Dean of the CPCC Harper Campus; CPCC student and HVAC Club President Shane Estes, and a representative from Piedmont Natural Gas. Following the dedication, participants will have an opportunity to take student-guided tours of the new Hydronics lab.
The Piedmont Natural Gas Hydronics Lab will serve as a valuable teaching tool for students in the HVAC program at CPCC. The Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration (AHR) Technology curriculum at CPCC provides the basic knowledge to develop skills necessary to work with residential and light commercial systems. Topics include mechanical refrigeration, heating, and cooling theory, electricity, controls and safety. The program covers air conditioning, furnaces, heat pumps, tools and instruments, residential building codes, residential system sizing, and advanced comfort systems.
Graduates of the program are able to assist in the start up, preventive maintenance, service, repair, and/or installation of residential and light commercial systems and demonstrate an understanding of system selection and balance and advance systems.
“We are extremely appreciative of the generous gift and the strong support of Piedmont Natural Gas to CPCC over the years,” states Dr. Tony Zeiss, President of CPCC. “The Hydronics lab will provide hands-on experiences for our students in the HVAC program and equip them with the knowledge they need to be successful on the job.”
"Playing an active role in the development of the communities we serve is an important element of our Company’s mission,” states David Trusty, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Piedmont Natural Gas. “We value this opportunity to work with CPCC in an effort to provide resources that will assist current and future students in preparing for careers in the air-conditioning, heating, and refrigeration industry."
