In the tradition of bringing the best and boldest of what Broadway has to offer to Charlotte, CPCC Summer Theatre is proud to present the Charlotte premiere of the Tony Award winning musical Parade by Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) and Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years ).
Based on the Leo Frank/Mary Phagan murder trial of 1913, Parade tells the story of a man wrongly accused of murder. Condemned and convicted before the trial had even begun, Leo Frank’s tragic story has been turned into one of the most challenging musicals to come from New York since Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd or Bernstein’s West Side Story. But more than that, Parade is a love story. It is the story of a woman whose belief in her husband transcended their time and speaks to all. Contains strong language.
Parade stars local theatre favorites Billy Ensley as Leo Frank, Ron Aldridge as Hugh Dorsey, Carey Kugler as Tom Watson, Kevin Harris as Newt Lee, Patrick Ratchford as Gov. Slaton, Olivia Edge as Sally Slaton and Susan Roberts Knowlson as Mrs. Phagan. The role of
Lucille Frank will be played by talented newcomer Katherine Lauer.
Directed by Tom Hollis – Choreography by Linda Booth – Music Direction by Drina Keen –
Scenic Design by Anna Sartin –Lighting Design by Gary Sivak,
Costume Design by Jennifer Matthews.
