CPCC Offers Two Exciting Summer Camps at North Campus

last modified 2008-04-07 11:05
A summer of enrichment targeting students in grades 7-12 is offered at Central Piedmont Community College’s (CPCC) North Campus (11930 Verhoeff Drive). The American Academy of Applied Forensics (AAAF) at CPCC will host two camps exposing students to fundamental law enforcement and forensic science.

The camps afford students an in-depth look into the aspects of forensics as applied to daily life and facilitate a birds-eye view of a career in law-enforcement. Camps held at CPCC’s North Campus ( 11930 Verhoeff Drive) offer participants the opportunity of working in the new state-of-the-art crime scene lab giving them hands-on exposure to each field and an appreciation of required skills.

Forensics Kid’s Camp offers students an opportunity to learn more about crime scene investigation using real life scenarios. Participants receive a mock crime-scene kit used to process information using ‘real world’ techniques and equipment, and investigate a staged crime. The crime-scene lab includes a mock motel room, office and apartment for staging crimes and facilitating ‘real-life’ learning and application of forensic knowledge such as finger-printing, casting and molding shoe impressions, developing and lifting fingerprints and analyzing hairs. Students use laboratory equipment to analyze evidence obtained from a crime scene. CPCC staff (former law enforcement officials) and FBI agents assisting with the camp will enlarge upon forensics career opportunities.
