CPCC Names New Board of Trustees Member

Carlos Sanchez Appointed to CPCC Board of Trustees

Carlos E. Sanchez was recently appointed to the Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) Board of Trustees. Sanchez, who was appointed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education to this position, serves as Regional Director of Corporate and External Affairs for AT&T North Carolina (formerly BellSouth) in Mecklenburg County. He is responsible for coordinating AT&T’s efforts in support of civic, business, and government organizations in the community. Prior to his current position, he served as Sales Director for South Carolina in AT&T’s Small Business Sales Division.

A resident of Charlotte for more than nine years, Sanchez has worked as Regional Sales Director for BTI, a competitive local exchange carrier, where he managed the local branch office. Before moving to Charlotte, he served as Executive Vice President and part owner of Kisa Internacional S.A., a telecommunications technology integrator and service provider with main offices in Colombia, South America. In addition, he has owned and operated a local cable station in New York and has produced a weekly travel television program which aired on The Travel Channel and the Telemundo Network for five years.

He received a B.A. in International Relations and Political Science from Florida International University. Community leadership positions include serving on the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Chamber, Arts and Science Council, and the Boy Scouts of America. Previously, Sanchez also served on the CPCC Foundation Board. He is a member of the Board of Advisors at the Institute of Emerging Issues of North Carolina State University and the North Carolina in the World project at the Center for International Understanding in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is active with the Leadership Team Board at Collinswood Bilingual Academy in CMS and was appointed Jury Commissioner for the 26th Judicial District in Mecklenburg County in 2003. He is past chairman of the Latin American Chamber of Commerce and served on the Mayor’s Immigration Study Commission in 2006. A native of Bogota, Colombia, Sanchez is married and has two children.

CPCC is governed by its 13-member Board of Trustees. The President of the Student Government Association serves with trustees appointed by the Governor, the County Commission, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education.

Central Piedmont Community College is the largest community college in North Carolina, offering 100 degree and certification programs, customized corporate training, market-focused continuing education, and special interest classes. CPCC is academically, financially and geographically accessible to all citizens of Mecklenburg County. In 2002, the National Alliance of Business named CPCC the Community College of the Year for its response to the workforce and technology needs of local employers and job seekers through innovative educational and training strategies.
