Ruth G. Shaw Academic Learning Center

The Academic Learning Center (ALC) is here to serve the tutoring needs of the students at CPCC who are enrolled in curriculum courses. For any student who needs individual assistance in addition to that which they are receiving in the classroom, we have caring qualified staff who are ready to help you learn.

The ALC is committed to helping students in three crucial areas:

  1. Overcoming difficulties with academic coursework.
  2. Promotion of independent learning.
  3. Proactive endowment of students with skills necessary to   promote  academic and life-long learning success.

This Fall semester we are launching a new Developmental Math Supplemental Instruction Program.  We have been using the SI format with our science tutoring for several semesters.  And it has proven so successful that we have decided to change developmental math to this same format.  Please see the schedule of sessions:  ALC Math SI Sessions Fall 2008.

This Fall semester we will also be providing students with the opportunity to attend one of many valuable workshops covering such topics as:  Effective Study Skills, Test Taking, Note Taking, Time Management, and Diversity.  Please check back with us soon to find the day and time for each.

We are located on the Central Campus, Room CH103.   704 330-6474
