Staff Bios

AAAF’s resident staff has more than a half-century of training and experience in general and digital evidence forensic investigations and law enforcement training. In addition, AAAF routinely attracts national forensic experts as adjunct instructors in both the General Forensics and Digital Evidence areas.



Lili K. Johnson, Ed.D.
Associate Dean, American Academy of Applied Forensics

Dr. Johnson has headed AAAF since its inception in 2001 and also serves as associate dean of CPCC’s North Campus where the college’s public safety program is based. Prior to her leadership of AAAF, Dr. Johnson was Division Director of CPCC’s Public Safety program. She also has served as Dean of CPCC’s North Campus.

Dr. Johnson’s extensive law enforcement career includes 15 years with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation where she was a Special Agent and an instructor and trainer for SBI agents. She also has field experience in drug and general criminal investigations and uniformed police service. She has been certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards Commission as a General, Physical and Firearms Instructor. Dr. Johnson also teaches occupational Spanish courses for criminal justice professionals.

Dr. Johnson earned her Doctorate degree in Adult Education from North Carolina State University, her Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from East Carolina University.


Jason Guffey
Program Developer of General Forensics, American Academy of Applied Forensics


C. Jason Guffey has 10 years of experience as a Crime Scene Investigator and over 20 years Professional Photography experience. He served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, & Stanly County Sheriff’s Office. He was responsible for documenting, collecting and preserving physical evidence at various crimes scenes such as homicides, suicides, robberies, sexual assaults, child abuse and assault with deadly weapons. He has also performed, blood detection, shooting reconstruction and fingerprint development and processing on the various scenes. Jason has provided expert witness testimony in criminal and federal court proceedings. Jason is an active member of the International Association for Identification (IAI) and The North Carolina Chapter (NCIAI). He’s currently on the sub-committee board for Forensic Imaging (IAI) and the Fuji Talent Team for Law Enforcement Training-Forensic Team. Jason Guffey teaches the Forensic Photography and the Advanced Crime Scene Photography workshops.


Dale Callan
Program Developer,  American Academy of Applied Forensics

Dale Callan is a retired U. S. Postal Inspector, where he served in various assignments in the Boston Division for the US Postal Inspection Service. He comes to us with 29 years experience in federal law enforcement that included identity theft, mail fraud, electronic crimes, credit card fraud and major crimes investigations.  He is a subject matter expert in Identity Theft crimes and firearms training.  He was co-leader and founder of the NH Identity Theft Intelligence Group with the US Attorney's Office in Concord, NH.  He also served as a member of the NH Federal Anti-terrorist Task Force.  He also served as a Special Agent with US Army Intelligence working counterintelligence and counterespionage cases in Korea.  Dale also assisted the NH Police Academy as a guest lecturer.  As a member of IAFCI (International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators) he provided expertise in a variety of financial and electronic crimes.
